Health Department on High Alert

Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling announced that the Health Department is on high alert as Cyclone Dana approaches. The cyclone is expected to hit the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha on October 24-25. All Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs) have been instructed to stay prepared, and their leaves have been canceled. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is closely monitoring the situation.

Former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik urged residents to stay alert and prioritize safety. He emphasized the state’s effective disaster management policy, which has helped in past cyclones. Patnaik called on elected representatives to support the people during this challenging time.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Actions

NDRF DIG Mohsen Shahidi stated that teams are focusing on evacuations before the cyclone’s landfall. Twenty teams are deployed in Odisha, 13 in West Bengal, with additional teams in reserve. Preparations are also underway in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizag.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) Forecast

The IMD predicts Cyclone Dana will intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal by October 24th morning. It is expected to cross the north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island, with wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, gusting to 120 kmph.

Rescue and Relief Efforts

NDRF teams in Odisha are on standby, and rescue and relief teams from the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard are on high alert, ready with ships and aircraft.
