In Bhubaneswar, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo announced that the state is on high alert as Cyclone Dana is expected to make landfall on October 24. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall, prompting multiple departments to prepare for the storm.

KV Singh Deo emphasized the state’s commitment by assigning Cabinet ministers to visit districts likely to be affected by the cyclone. This move highlights the government’s seriousness in handling the situation, as ministers are also tasked with overseeing restoration efforts. “One minister, one district,” he stated, ensuring accountability and preparedness.

IMD Senior Scientist Umashankar Das reported that the deep depression has intensified into a cyclone storm, moving northwest at 15 km/hour. It is currently 520 km southeast of Paradeep and may become a severe cyclone by October 24. The cyclone is expected to make landfall between midnight of October 24 and early morning of October 25, with wind speeds of 100-110 km/hour and gusts up to 220 km/hour. A red warning has been issued, and fishermen are advised to stay ashore until October 25.

ADG Law and Order, Sanjay Kumar, confirmed that the state police force is ready, with 60 teams of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) deployed. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and rescue teams from the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard are also on standby, ensuring a coordinated response to Cyclone Dana.
