Odisha Prepares for Cyclone Dana
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Leads Efforts
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has assured that the state is fully prepared to handle Cyclone Dana, which is expected to cross the north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island on the night of October 24 and early morning of October 25. The Chief Minister emphasized that the government aims for zero casualties and urged people not to panic.
After a review meeting, Majhi stated, “100% evacuation will be made after identifying vulnerable areas. NDRF, ODRAF & Fire Services teams are kept ready. The government is closely monitoring the situation.” Cyclone shelters will be equipped with all necessities, and there are plans for the early restoration of power, water supply, and communication lines. Hospitals will receive uninterrupted electricity, and measures are in place to prevent hoarding or overcharging of essential commodities.

Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo mentioned that multiple departments are on high alert due to the heavy rainfall predicted by the IMD. “The Odisha government is in total preparedness in both the energy and agriculture departments,” he said. Departments have issued necessary instructions, and leaves have been canceled for concerned officers.
Singh Deo highlighted that Kendrapara, Balasore, and Bhadrak are expected to be mainly affected, with other coastal districts like Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Ganjam receiving heavy rainfall. Advisories have been given to ensure quick evacuation of rainwater.
