Odisha Prepares for Cyclone Dana
High-Level Meeting Led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi
On October 24, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi chaired a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar to review the preparedness for the severe Cyclone Dana. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management, Suresh Pujari, among others.
Government’s Preparedness
Odisha Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra stated that all ministers have been assigned responsibilities to oversee the affected areas. An IAS officer has been deployed to each district to ensure readiness. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that Cyclone Dana will move north-northwestwards, crossing the Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island, with wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, gusting up to 120 kmph.
Evacuation and Relief Efforts
Evacuations have begun in Dhamara and Bhadrak, Odisha, with residents being moved to cyclone shelters. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams in Odisha and West Bengal are on standby. The Indian Navy is also preparing for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations, with the Eastern Naval Command coordinating efforts to provide essential supplies and medical support.
