Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan Ensures Quality of Jagannath Temple Prasadam Amid Tirupati Laddu Controversy
Bhubaneshwar (Odisha) [India], September 27: Amid the Tirupati Laddu Prasadam row, Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan announced that the state government is taking precautionary measures to ensure the quality of the Mahaprasad offered to Lord Jagannath in the temple. He stated that a food inspector will be appointed to check the quality of the Prasadam and its ingredients.
Harichandan emphasized, “Since we encountered a situation like adulteration of ingredients in Tirupati’s Balaji temple, we are taking precautionary measures. We will not let anything like this happen in the Jagannath temple. The quality of the Prasad offered to the Lord and the quality of the Prasad used by the devotees will be maintained.”
The controversy over the Tirupati Prasadam began after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu claimed that substandard ingredients, including animal fat, were used in the preparation of Tirupati laddus during the previous YSRCP government. YSRCP leader Jagan Mohan Reddy accused CM Naidu of lying about the Tirupati Laddu Prasadam and stated that the ghee procurement e-tender is a routine process.
Reddy further alleged that CM Naidu brought up the Laddu issue to shift political focus and obstruct his upcoming visit to the Tirumala temple. He claimed that police have issued notices to YSRCP leaders, stating that their visit to the temple is not permitted and lacks necessary approval.
Reddy said, “On one side, they are serving notices to obstruct my temple visit, while on the other side, BJP cadres are coming into the state, and a large number of police are deployed at multiple locations. To shift the political focus, CM Chandrababu Naidu has brought up the laddu issue, questioning the sanctity and pride of Tirumala.”
