Odisha Government Removes Minati Behera from Women’s Commission
Governor Raghubar Das Issues Order
The Odisha Government has decided to remove Minati Behera from her position as Chairperson of the State Commission for Women (SCW). This decision follows a show-cause notice issued to her by the Orissa government, requesting an explanation of her performance.
Details of the Notification
The Department of Women and Child Development, under the direction of Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, released a notification on November 9. The notification cited the Orissa State Commission for Women Act, 1993, as the basis for the action. Minati Behera was asked to respond to the notice by November 1, 2024, but her reply was deemed inadequate.
The official notification stated, “After thorough and careful examination of the show cause reply submitted by the Chairperson, OSCW, it is observed that the reply is inadequate and does not justify the unsatisfactory performance of the Commission.”
As a result, the government has decided to remove Minati Behera from her role, citing public interest and using the powers granted under Section 4 (3) of the Act.
