Odisha Government Reduces Security for Former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik

The Odisha government has decided to downgrade the security cover of Naveen Patnaik, the state’s five-time former Chief Minister, from Z to Y category. This decision was announced by Amar Patnaik, a leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), who expressed his disappointment, calling it “extremely unfortunate.”

Amar Patnaik highlighted Naveen Patnaik’s long tenure and respect as a political leader, stating that the people of Odisha view him as a father, brother, son, and leader. He criticized the government’s decision, suggesting it lacked political decorum, and warned that the people of Odisha would remember this action.

Amar Patnaik also advised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government that such actions could have political repercussions, as the people of Odisha may not forgive them. Naveen Patnaik was elected Leader of the Opposition in the Odisha Assembly after the BJD lost the Assembly polls, with the BJP forming its first government in the state.

In the recent assembly elections, the BJP secured 78 seats, the BJD won 51 seats, and the Congress won 14 seats in the 147-seat assembly. These elections were held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls.
