Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi’s Singapore Visit: Strengthening Business Ties
On November 17, a high-level delegation from Odisha, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Industry Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, began their visit to Singapore. The visit started with a briefing by Dr. Shilpak Ambule, the Indian High Commissioner to Singapore, on India-Singapore business relations. The High Commissioner discussed recent trade developments and the role of Indian states like Odisha in enhancing bilateral ties, especially in sectors like chemicals, renewable energy, and skilling.
Chief Minister Majhi chaired several meetings, starting with Dr. Edward Morton, Founder of CT Metrix, to discuss developments in IT, semiconductors, and smart city solutions. Majhi invited Morton to explore business opportunities in Odisha. The delegation also met Vivek Agarwal from Visa Group Limited, urging expansion in steel and ferro-chrome sectors, and Rabin Jhunjhunwala from Orind Singapore Pte Ltd, encouraging investment in bio-fertilizers.
The delegation visited Sembcorp Industries Ltd. to explore renewable energy advancements, announcing the approval of Sembcorp’s Green Ammonia project in Odisha. This aligns with Odisha’s focus on green investments. The day ended with a dinner hosted by the Indian High Commissioner.
Chief Minister Majhi expressed his commitment to fostering growth and collaboration, highlighting Odisha’s potential in sectors like handloom and seafood. Industry Minister Swain emphasized Odisha’s strategic location as a major investment hub. The visit is part of the Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025, aiming to attract global investors.
