Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi Visits His Ancestral Home in Kendujhar
On June 24, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited his home in Raikela village, Kendujhar district, for the first time since becoming Chief Minister. He met with his mother, received a warm welcome, and had lunch with her.
During his visit, Majhi held a roadshow in Ghatagaon, where local BJP leaders and supporters greeted him warmly. On June 12, Majhi took the oath as Chief Minister in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking the first BJP government in Odisha.
Majhi, a 52-year-old from the Santali tribe, began his political career as a sarpanch from 1997-2000. He was first elected to the state assembly in 2000 and re-elected in 2004. He served as the government deputy chief whip from 2005 to 2009 and was elected as an MLA again in 2019. In the recent polls, Majhi retained his seat by defeating BJD’s Mina Majhi by 11,577 votes. The BJP won 78 of 147 seats in the Odisha assembly polls.
On Saturday, Majhi visited the Jagannath Puri temple and offered prayers for the prosperity of Odisha’s 4.5 crore people and the successful performance of the upcoming Sri Gundicha Ratha yatra.
