Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], July 23: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled a new book titled ‘The Collector’s Mother’ at Lokseva Bhawan. The book, written by Bishnupada Sethi, IAS, and published by M/s BluOne Ink, New Delhi, tells the true story of an underprivileged woman who inspired her son to join the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

The woman, born as an unwanted girl child in pre-independence India, faced numerous life-threatening challenges in a remote village in Odisha. The village was plagued by caste-based discrimination, lack of law, poor education, food insecurity, drought, famine, and inadequate healthcare. Despite facing violent attacks and public humiliation, she remained determined to protect her family.

Her perseverance paid off when a conscientious collector, Ashwini Vaishnav, helped restore their land after a long legal battle. Inspired by his mother’s wish for him to become a collector, her son pursued this dream and eventually joined the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in 1995.

The book highlights the woman’s journey of dignity and forgiveness, and aims to inspire students to achieve their goals despite facing significant obstacles.
