Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi Announces Subhadra Scheme for Women’s Empowerment

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi of Odisha has announced a new initiative called Subhadra, aimed at empowering women in the state. This scheme was approved by the state cabinet and will be implemented from the financial year 2024-25 to 2028-29.

Details of the Subhadra Scheme

The Subhadra scheme will benefit over 1 crore women in Odisha. It is designed for women aged 21 years or above and less than 60 years old. Each eligible woman will receive Rs 10,000 per year, paid in two instalments of Rs 5000 each on Rakhi Purnima Day and International Women’s Day (March 8). Over five years, each beneficiary will receive a total of Rs 50,000.

Payment and Transparency

To ensure transparency, payments will be made directly to the beneficiaries’ Aadhaar-enabled single-holder bank accounts through the Aadhaar Payment Bridge System (APBS). Beneficiaries will also receive a Subhadra Debit Card. Additionally, 100 beneficiaries with the most digital transactions in each Gram Panchayat and Urban Local Body will receive an extra Rs 500 incentive.

Eligibility Criteria

Women from economically well-off families, government servants, or Income Tax payees are not eligible for the scheme. Women receiving Rs 1,500 or more per month or Rs 18,000 or more per year from other government schemes are also ineligible.

Application Process

Women can apply for the scheme by filling out forms available at anganwadi centres, block offices, Mo Seva Kendras, and Jan Seva Kendras. A call centre will be set up to assist with the Subhadra scheme.

Implementation and Monitoring

The Women and Child Development Department will establish a Subhadra Society to implement and monitor the programme. The government aims to launch Subhadra as soon as possible.

Chief Minister Majhi emphasized the importance of this initiative and sought cooperation for its successful implementation to ensure no deserving woman is left out.
