Odisha CM Majhi Opens Boyanika Outlet Showcasing Traditional Handwoven Fabrics
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated an exclusive Boyanika Outlet at Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar. Deputy Chief Ministers KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida were also present at the event.
The Boyanika Outlet, opened on Friday, features GI-tagged traditional handwoven fabrics of Odisha. The Ministry of Textiles has been providing financial assistance for the registration of handloom products under the Geographical Indications (GI) of Goods Act, 1999. GI help desks have been set up at each Weavers Service Centre to address issues related to GI products and promote GI in handloom clusters.
So far, 65 handloom products and six product logos have been registered under the GI Act. Some of the GI-tagged handlooms include:

- Khandua Saree and Fabrics
- Gopalpur Tussar Fabrics
- Dhalapathar Parda & Fabrics
- Sambalpuri Bandha Saree & Fabrics
- Bomkai Saree & Fabrics
- Habaspuri Saree and Fabrics
- Berhampur Patta (Phoda Kumbha) Saree & Joda
Geographical indications of goods refer to the geographical origin of a product, ensuring its quality and distinctiveness. These are covered under the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property and the TRIPS Agreement. India enacted the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration & Protection) Act, 1999, which came into force on September 15, 2003.
