Nottingham Forest Signs Alex Moreno from Aston Villa on Loan
Nottingham Forest has announced the signing of Spanish left-back Alex Moreno from Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy. The club expressed their delight in a statement, noting that the 31-year-old will be with them until the end of the season, with a possibility of making the move permanent.
Last season, Moreno made 29 appearances for Aston Villa under head coach Unai Emery, helping the team qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Before joining Aston Villa in 2023, Moreno played extensively in La Liga, featuring 127 times for Rayo Vallecano and 122 times for Real Betis. He was part of the Real Betis squad that won the Copa del Rey in 2022.
Upon his arrival in the UK, Moreno made an immediate impact, registering three assists in 19 Premier League appearances. However, he eventually fell down the pecking order.
Chief Football Officer Ross Wilson expressed his happiness at Moreno’s arrival, stating, “Alex is a player we have had a long-standing interest in so we are naturally all very happy to see him arrive at Nottingham Forest today. He has amassed significant experience in La Liga and the Premier League, and he brings all of that quality and experience to our group now.”
Moreno’s departure from Aston Villa comes after the club signed Ian Maatsen from Chelsea earlier in the summer transfer window. Maatsen, a 22-year-old left-back, joined Villa on June 28 and has previously played for PSV Eindhoven, Charlton Athletic, Coventry City, Burnley, and Dortmund.
