Northeast Frontier Railway Introduces Advanced Water Level Monitoring System on Brahmaputra Mail Express

Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 17: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is making efforts to integrate modern technologies like Artificial Intelligence and IoT-based devices to improve safety and passenger convenience. On August 16, an advanced Water Level Monitoring System was inaugurated on the Brahmaputra Mail Express train at Kamakhya Railway Station by General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava.

This innovative system is a major step forward in water management on long-distance trains, ensuring continuous and reliable water availability for passengers. Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, CPRO of NFR, explained that the Water Level Indicator, a Real-Time Water Monitoring System, has been installed as a pilot project on one rake of the Brahmaputra Mail Express.

The system offers continuous and accurate monitoring of water levels in the train’s water tanks. It uses LoRa and GPRS-based communication for long-range, low-power wireless data transmission, making it suitable for remote locations. The system features programmable real-time data logging and storage, with data captured and transmitted through a Hydrostatic Pressure Sensor that measures water levels with 0.5% accuracy across a range of 1m to 5m, even in temperatures from 0°C to 70°C. It also includes a built-in Real-Time Clock for precise time-stamped data logging, aiding in accurate data analysis and efficient water management.

This initiative reflects NFR’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve the travel experience for passengers. By ensuring round-the-clock water availability, the Water Level Indicator is set to be an essential tool in maintaining high standards of service on long-distance routes. NFR, in line with Indian Railways, emphasized the importance of such innovative implementations in its long-distance trains. Successful implementation of this pilot project could lead to broader applications across other trains, significantly enhancing the efficiency of water management systems during train journeys. Passengers on the Brahmaputra Mail Express can now enjoy a more comfortable journey with reliable water supply throughout their trip.
