North Korea Sends Soldiers to Russia Amid Ukraine Conflict
North Korea has sent 1,500 soldiers to Russia for training, marking its first military involvement in Moscow’s war against Ukraine. This information was reported by South Korea’s National Intelligence Service. The soldiers traveled on seven Russian ships and were personally inspected by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Additionally, large Russian transport aircraft have been frequently traveling between Vladivostok and Pyongyang.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned about the growing alliance between Russia and North Korea, stating that North Korean troops are joining the war. South Korea’s intelligence agency provided satellite images as evidence of North Korea’s troop deployment to Russia.
US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin mentioned that he cannot confirm the deployment but expressed concern if it were true. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha accused North Korea of aiding Russian aggression with weapons and personnel. US House Intelligence Committee chair Mike Turner called the troop movements alarming and urged for an immediate response from the United States and NATO allies.
South Korean media reported that North Korea might send a total of 12,000 troops, although this was not confirmed by the National Intelligence Service.
