NMCG Celebrates 10th International Yoga Day with ‘Ghat Par Yoga’ Along Yamuna

New Delhi, June 21: The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) organized a special event called ‘Ghat Par Yoga’ along the banks of the Yamuna River to celebrate the 10th International Day of Yoga. This year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Self and Society,’ highlights the importance of yoga for personal well-being and societal harmony.

The event saw participation from NMCG officials, staff, NGOs under YAP-III of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, members of Ganga Vichar Manch, various other NGOs, students, and children. Key figures like NMCG Director General Rajeev Kumar Mittal and Deputy Director General Nalin Kumar Srivastava were present.

Addressing the gathering, Rajeev Kumar Mittal emphasized the historical connection between yoga and rivers, encouraging everyone to visit and keep riversides clean. He noted that yoga events are organized not only in New Delhi but also in states like Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Mittal highlighted that the International Day of Yoga aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision and is celebrated globally to honor Indian cultural heritage. He described yoga as a unique Indian spiritual science that promotes mental and physical well-being.

This year’s yoga session was led by Yogini Meenakshi, who emphasized the transformative power of yoga for individuals, families, and society. As part of the Namami Gange Programme, yoga sessions were conducted at 139 sites across the Ganga Basin, involving District Ganga Committees, State Mission for Clean Ganga (SMCG), yoga instructors, Ganga Praharis, Ganga Vichar Manch, Ganga Task Force, and students.
