Nitin Gadkari Opens Oxygen Bird Park in Nagpur

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the Oxygen Bird Park, also known as Amrit Mahotsav Park, along the Nagpur-Hyderabad National Highway-44 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The park was developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and covers a total area of 8.23 hectares, including 2.5 hectares dedicated to social forestry.

Environmental and Recreational Initiative

Gadkari emphasized the importance of protecting the environment, noting that pollution in cities like Delhi affects public health. The park aims to provide a pure air environment for senior citizens and the public. Various trees have been planted to enhance the park’s ecological value.

Project Details

The project was approved in March 2023 with a development cost of Rs 14.31 crore. The idea originated from a suggestion by Nitin Gadkari to develop a park on NHAI land to observe the variety of birds in Central India and provide recreational space for citizens. The park is designed to mimic natural ecosystems, conserving both local and migratory bird populations.

Amenities and Features

The park offers a range of amenities including a ticket counter, food court, modern toilets, internal pathways, a jogging/cycling track, an amphitheatre, watch towers, and cast-iron benches. Landscaping features include expanded lawns, green pockets, and an irrigation system. Utilities are well-integrated, including a 200 kVA transformer and additional borewells.

Event Attendance

The inauguration event was attended by Shyam Kumar Barve, MP, Tekchand Sawarkar, MLA, Ashish Jaiswal, MLA, Vikas Kumbhare, Sudhakar Kohale, and Anurag Jain, Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, along with senior officials from the ministry and NHAI.
