Nitin Gadkari Attends Swearing-In of Iran’s New President Masoud Pezeshkian
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, attended the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s new President, Masoud Pezeshkian, on Tuesday. Gadkari represented the Indian government and conveyed good wishes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to President Pezeshkian.
During his visit, Gadkari discussed the positive state of bilateral relations with Iranian officials, focusing on the development of Chabahar Port. Both sides agreed that the port would enhance bilateral and regional trade, providing access to landlocked Afghanistan and Central Asian countries.
The snap elections in Iran were held after the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a helicopter crash. Masoud Pezeshkian, a reformist candidate, won the presidential election with over 16.3 million votes, defeating his ultraconservative rival Saeed Jalili, who received more than 13.5 million votes. The voter turnout was 49.8% in the runoff election.
