Nitin Gadkari and Assam CM Review Highway Projects
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, held a meeting in New Delhi to review National Highway projects in Assam. The meeting included Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and officials from NHIDCL, NHAI, and State PWD. Gadkari emphasized completing 28 ongoing projects and speeding up 11 delayed ones.
Key Projects Discussed
CM Sarma requested faster completion of the four-laning of NH 37 from Jorhat to Demow. Gadkari instructed officials to improve road signage to prevent accidents. The Chief Minister also asked for a Minister of State to inspect the four-laning work from Jorhat to Dibrugarh.
Other projects reviewed included the Guwahati Ring Road, Kaziranga elevated corridor, and Majuli bridge. Gadkari urged officials to blacklist contractors failing to maintain roads during construction.
Future Plans
Gadkari agreed to consider a different work schedule for Assam due to the monsoon season. CM Sarma highlighted the importance of timely completion of 57 critical highway projects. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also attended, advocating for road connectivity to Dhubri river port.
