Nithya Sre Advances to Knockout Stages at Paris Paralympics
Paris [France], September 1: Indian para-shuttler Nithya Sre has advanced to the knockout stages of the women’s singles competition at the ongoing Paris Paralympics. Despite losing to China’s Lin Shuangbao by 20-22, 18-21, Nithya’s previous wins in the group stage secured her a spot in the quarterfinals with a total of four points.
Men’s Singles Competition
In the men’s singles competition, Sivarajan Solaimalai lost to Great Britain’s Krysten Coombs by 12-21, 10-21, ending his run in the tournament with three losses. Krishna Nagar, India’s gold medalist from Tokyo 2020, also faced defeat against Thailand’s Nattapong Meechai, retiring midway through the match and thus exiting the competition.
India’s Medal Tally
India has so far secured five medals at the Paris Paralympics: one gold, one silver, and three bronze medals. Rubina won a bronze in the P2-Women’s 10M Air Pistol SH-1 final with 211.1 points. Avani Lekhara struck gold in the women’s 10m air rifle final with a personal best of 249.7 points, while Mona Agarwal won bronze in the same event with 228.7 points. Manish Narwal secured a silver medal in the men’s P1 10m air pistol SH1 competition. Preethi Pal earned a bronze in the women’s T35 100m race with a personal best of 14.21 seconds.

This year, India has sent its largest Paralympics contingent ever, with 84 athletes across 12 sports. The nation aims to surpass its previous achievements from Tokyo 2020, where India won 19 medals, including five golds, eight silvers, and six bronzes.
