Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 3: Nita M Ambani, the founder-chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, has praised the Indian athletes for their outstanding performances at the ongoing Paris Paralympics. She highlighted their “remarkable journeys” and “triumphs” as a “shining example of the resilience of the human spirit”.
India has been performing exceptionally well, winning a total of 15 medals so far, including three golds, five silvers, and seven bronzes. The country is currently placed at number 15 in the medal table and is just five medals away from surpassing their record tally of 19 medals from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Yesterday, para-shuttlers excelled, with Nitesh Kumar winning gold in the men’s singles SL3 competition. Thulasimathi Murugesan and Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj secured silver medals in the women’s singles SU5 and men’s singles SL4 categories, respectively. Yathiraj also won a silver in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
In para-badminton, Manisha Ramdass and Nithya Sre won bronze medals in singles competitions. In para-archery and athletics, Sumit Antil defended his gold in the men’s javelin throw F64 final with a record-breaking throw. Nishad Kumar won silver in the men’s high jump T47 final, achieving his season-best performance with a leap of 2.04 meters.
The Indian archery pair of Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi won bronze in the Mixed Team Compound event. Preeti Pal made history by becoming the first-ever Indian woman athlete to win two medals in track and field events at the Paralympics, securing bronze in the 200m T-35 race and the women’s T35 100m race.
Rubina Francis won bronze in the P2-Women’s 10M Air Pistol SH-1 final. Avani Lekhara continued her winning streak by securing gold in the women’s 10m air rifle final, while Mona Agarwal won bronze in the same event. Manish Narwal won silver in the men’s P1 10m air pistol SH1 competition.
This year, India has sent its largest Paralympics contingent ever, comprising 84 athletes across 12 sports, aiming to surpass its previous achievements in Tokyo. Tokyo 2020 was India’s most successful Paralympic Games, with the country winning 19 medals, including five golds, eight silvers, and six bronzes.
