Nishan Peiris Joins Sri Lanka Squad for Final Test Against New Zealand

Galle, Sri Lanka – September 24: Sri Lanka’s uncapped offspinner Nishan Peiris has been included in the squad for the final Test against New Zealand after experienced seamer Vishwa Fernando sustained an injury.

Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that the 33-year-old seamer developed tightness in his right hamstring and will undergo rehabilitation at the high performance center. Fernando missed the first Test, which Sri Lanka won by 63 runs.

Peiris has been included in the squad twice before but has yet to make his debut. He could be handed his maiden Test cap as Ramesh Mendis is struggling with his form. Mendis took three wickets in each inning of the first Test but struggled with his line and length, allowing New Zealand to ease the pressure.

Peiris has taken 172 first-class wickets in 41 matches at an average of 24.37. He also impressed by taking three wickets in the first unofficial Test between Sri Lanka A and South Africa A.

Sri Lanka’s victory over New Zealand in the first Test was their fourth in eight matches, moving them to the third spot with a point percentage of 50%. They aim to achieve a percentage of 69.23% if they win their remaining Test matches.
