Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired a meeting with finance ministers from various states and union territories in New Delhi. The meeting aimed to gather suggestions for the upcoming Union Budget 2024-25.

Rajasthan’s Requests

Rajasthan Finance Minister Diya Kumari highlighted several needs for her state. She requested special funds for the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) and additional funds for new highways and railway lines. The BJP has committed to completing the ERCP within five years.

Consultations with Experts

As part of the budget preparation, Sitharaman also met with economists, finance and capital market experts, and industry bodies. These meetings covered topics like GST rules, the NBFC sector, and capital market improvements. Industry representatives asked for GST restructuring, tax reductions, and increased capital expenditure.

Upcoming Budget Presentation

Sitharaman is set to present the Union Budget for 2024-25 in the third week of July. This will be her seventh budget presentation, setting a new record for consecutive budgets presented by a finance minister.
