On October 14, Kathmandu was abuzz with excitement as Nepal’s celebrated climbers, Nima Rinji Sherpa and Dawa Yangzum Sherpa, returned home after their remarkable achievements. They were warmly welcomed at Tribhuvan International Airport with garlands and traditional Khada scarves.
Nima Rinji Sherpa’s Historic Feat
At just 18 years old, Nima Rinji Sherpa made history by becoming the youngest person to summit all 14 of the world’s highest peaks over 8000 meters. His journey began in September 2022 with Mount Manaslu and concluded with Mount Shishapangma on October 9, 2024. Nima expressed his happiness upon returning to Nepal and shared his future plans to enter the tourism industry.
Dawa Yangzum Sherpa’s Inspirational Journey
Dawa Yangzum Sherpa also completed the incredible feat of climbing all 14 peaks above 8000 meters, with her final summit being Shishapangma. As the first female Asian mountain guide certified by the International Federation of Mountain Guides, Dawa is a strong advocate for women in mountaineering and climate change awareness. Her achievements have inspired many, joining the ranks of Spain’s Edurne Pasaban, the first woman to achieve this feat in 2010.
