Lucknow Super Giants Retention Plans for IPL 2025

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are planning to retain several key players for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Among those likely to stay are West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran, Indian cricketers Mayank Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi, and uncapped players Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni.

Nicholas Pooran’s Stellar Performance

Nicholas Pooran, known for his powerful hitting, was a standout performer in the 2024 IPL season. He scored 499 runs in 14 matches, including three fifties, and served as interim captain and wicketkeeper when KL Rahul was injured. Pooran was acquired by LSG in 2023 for Rs 16 crore.

Indian Stars Shine

Mayank Yadav impressed with his fast bowling, consistently clocking speeds of 150 kmph. Despite an injury-shortened season, he took seven wickets in four matches and earned a fast bowling contract with the BCCI. Ravi Bishnoi, initially picked by LSG in 2022, has been a reliable bowler, taking 10 wickets in the last season.

Uncapped Talents

Ayush Badoni and Mohsin Khan, both uncapped players, have been vital to LSG’s success. Badoni, an aggressive middle-order batter, scored 238 runs in 2023, while Mohsin, a left-arm fast bowler, made a strong comeback after an injury, taking 10 wickets in 2023.

KL Rahul’s Uncertain Future

KL Rahul, who has captained LSG since 2022, may not be retained, although a final decision is yet to be made. LSG will have one right-to-match card at the auction, and Rs 51 crores will be deducted from their budget for retaining these players.
