New Delhi [India], July 9: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) visited the Kathua terror ambush site in Jammu and Kashmir where five Army personnel, including a junior commissioned officer, lost their lives on Monday.

The NIA’s Jammu and Kashmir-based unit reached the spot to assist the police in investigating the tragic terror case. The ambush on a routine patrol vehicle in Kathua’s Badnota village resulted in the loss of five Army personnel and injured five others.

The attack occurred on the Machedi-KindliMalhar road, about 150 km from Kathua town, at around 3.30 pm on Monday. Elite para commandos have been deployed, engaging in intermittent exchanges of fire as the operation continues.

This incident coincided with the 8th death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, adding a sombre context. The attack is believed to be part of a series of terrorist incidents attributed to attempts by Pakistan to disrupt peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

The ambush took place in an area monitored by the BSF and under the jurisdiction of the 9 Corps of the Army, Western Command. The soldiers who lost their lives were from Uttarakhand: Rifleman Anuj Negi from Pauri, Nayab Subedar Anand Singh Rawat from Rudraprayag, Naik Vinod Singh from Tehri, Kamal Singh from Pauri, and Adarsh Negi from Tehri.

This attack follows several other terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, including a recent attack on a bus carrying pilgrims to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi on June 9, which left nine people dead and 33 injured. The NIA is investigating these incidents and has identified several suspects.

The NIA team is currently gathering evidence at the scene and working closely with the Army and local police to identify the terrorists and prevent further incidents.
