NIA Investigates Attack on BJP Leader Priyangu Pandey’s Car
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken charge of the investigation into the attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Priyangu Pandey’s car. The incident occurred on August 28 in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district when Pandey was traveling to former MP Arjun Singh’s residence.
Details of the Attack
A group of over 50 individuals, armed with deadly weapons and crude bombs, attacked Pandey’s vehicle at around 8:30 pm. The attack resulted in gunshot injuries to the driver, Ravi Verma, and his colleague, Rabi Singh. Pandey alleged that Trinamool Congress workers were responsible for the attack, which took place in the Bhatpara area.
Accusations and Allegations
Arjun Singh accused Trinamool leaders Tarun Sau and MLA Somnath Shyam of orchestrating the attack, claiming the attackers were brought from Kakinara. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari shared a video clip on social media, alleging that a TMC goon fired at Pandey’s vehicle.
NIA’s Involvement
The NIA took over the case from the West Bengal Police, re-registering a First Information Report (FIR) on October 1 under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, the Arms Act 1959, and the Explosive Substances Act 1908. The Ministry of Home Affairs transferred the case to the NIA due to the violent nature of the attack.
