The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted extensive searches at four locations in Jharkhand on Wednesday. This was part of a case involving the arrest of CPI (Maoist) cadres and the seizure of arms and ammunition.

What Was Found?

NIA seized over Rs 36 lakhs, incriminating posters, digital devices, and various other documents. The searches were conducted at two locations in Ranchi district and two in Latehar district.

Background of the Case

The investigation, identified as RC-02/2022/NIA/RNC, was taken over from Peshrar police station in Lohardaga district on June 14, 2022. NIA had previously filed supplementary chargesheets against 22 accused under various laws, including the IPC, Arms Act, Explosive Substance Act, CLA Act, and UA(P) Act.

Who Are the Accused?

The accused were found to be working as overground workers (OGWs) for CPI (Maoist), a banned terrorist organization. They had provided logistics support and helped channelize money extorted by the group’s armed cadres.

Investigations in the case are still ongoing.
