NIA Files Charges Against Lalngaihawma for Illegal Arms Trafficking Linked to Myanmar Insurgents

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against Lalngaihawma in a Pan-India illegal arms and ammunition trafficking case. The charges were filed before the NIA Special Court in New Delhi under various sections of the IPC, Arms Act, Explosive Substance Act, and UA(P) Act.

Lalngaihawma is accused of being actively involved in a network operating in the North-East region and other parts of India. The case, registered on December 26, 2023, revealed that some Mizoram-based entities were engaged in illegal trafficking of arms, ammunition, and explosives.

Investigations showed that Lalngaihawma had strong connections with Myanmar-based insurgent groups. He received arms, ammunition, and explosives from them to supply to various insurgent and criminal groups. He also received significant funds through various channels, including his Myanmar-based associates.

The NIA found that Lalngaihawma had established a nexus with licensed arms dealers to pilfer non-prohibited bore weapons and ammunition, as well as traffic prohibited bore weapons.
