NIA Chargesheets 23rd Person in Jharkhand Naxal Case Involving Pradip Singh Chero
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted Pradip Singh Chero, the 23rd accused in a naxal arrest and arms seizure case in Jharkhand. Chero, a resident of Jharkhand, has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The case involves a conspiracy by naxal cadres to attack security forces in February 2023. The attack took place in the Peshrar area of Lohardaga district, Jharkhand, and was led by Regional Commander Ravindra Ganjhu. He was joined by active naxal cadres Balram Oraon and Muneshwar Ganjhu, along with 45-60 others.
The Jharkhand Police initially chargesheeted nine people before the NIA took over the investigation in June 2022. Since then, the NIA has filed five supplementary chargesheets between August 2023 and July 2024. The investigation revealed the involvement of various naxal armed cadres and overground supporters.
During a joint search operation by the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the security forces were attacked by armed naxal cadres who opened indiscriminate firing. A subsequent combing operation led to the recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
