New Delhi, India – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against Santosh Verma, also known as Mantosh, in the Balia Naxal conspiracy case. Mantosh, a resident of Kotwali area in Balia, Uttar Pradesh, is accused of participating in activities aimed at destabilizing the Indian government.

The chargesheet was submitted to the NIA Special Court in Lucknow. Mantosh is accused of being an active Naxal cadre, conspiring with other members to threaten India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He was also involved in recruiting new members for the Naxal group.

The case began on August 16, 2023, when the Anti-Terrorist Squad of Lucknow Police arrested five people during a raid at the house of Ram Murat. Various incriminating documents, Naxal literature, arms, ammunition, and digital devices were seized.

Investigations revealed that the Naxal group was using front organizations to spread their ideology in districts bordering Bihar. A meeting at Ram Murat’s house was organized to further these plans, according to the NIA.

The NIA took over the investigation on November 10 last year and had previously chargesheeted four other accused on February 9 this year. The probe has shown that Naxal leaders, cadres, sympathizers, and Over Ground Workers (OGWs) were involved in activities to revive the group in the Northern Regional Bureau, which includes Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh.
