NIA Arrests Key Suspect Aziz Ahamed in Tamil Nadu Hizb-ut-Tharir Case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Aziz Ahamed, also known as Aziz Ahmed or Jaleel Aziz Ahmed, at Bengaluru International Airport. He was trying to flee abroad.
The arrest is part of the Tamil Nadu Hizb-ut-Tharir case, which involves attempts to radicalize youth and establish an Islamic caliphate in India. The case, registered as RC 01/2024/NIA/CHE, includes six accused individuals influenced by the extremist ideology of Hizb-ut-Tharir, an international pan-Islamist and fundamentalist organization.
According to NIA investigations, the accused conducted secret Bayaans (meetings) where many participants, especially young people, were radicalized with Hizb-ut-Tharir’s ideologies. This organization seeks military assistance from forces hostile to India to achieve its goals. Aziz Ahamed was identified as a chief initiator in these secret meetings. The investigation is still ongoing.
