NHRC Takes Action on Poor Conditions at Jind Civil Hospital in Haryana

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India has taken notice of a report about the poor state of the Civil Hospital in Jind, Haryana. The report, published on July 5, highlights that the hospital’s infrastructure is in a ‘deplorable condition’.

Out of 55 sanctioned doctor positions, only 19 are filled. Despite around 2000 patients visiting daily, many are referred to other hospitals due to a lack of proper medical equipment and medicines. Additionally, the hospital premises face issues with monkeys, adding to the problems.

The NHRC has stated that if the report is true, it raises serious concerns about the violation of patients’ rights to health and medical care. The Commission has issued a notice to T.V.S.N. Prasad, Chief Secretary of Haryana, requesting a detailed report within a week. The report should include steps taken or proposed to improve the hospital’s conditions so that patients can receive proper medical care without being referred elsewhere.
