On July 22, 2024, a young man died from electrocution while trying to cross a water-logged street using an iron gate near his paying guest accommodation in Patel Nagar. The gate was next to an electric pole with exposed wires. The NHRC noted that this situation raises serious concerns about human rights violations due to apparent negligence by the authorities.

Despite efforts by his flatmates and neighbors to save him, he was ultimately pulled away from the gate by a police team and taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
