NHRC Investigates Alleged Abuse at Fake NCC Camp in Tamil Nadu
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken notice of a report that 13 girl students were sexually assaulted at a fake National Cadet Corps (NCC) camp in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. The camp took place from August 5th to 9th and was allegedly organized by a political leader who convinced the school authorities to hold the camp.
According to an official release, 41 students, including 17 girls, attended the camp. The NHRC has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police of Tamil Nadu, requesting a detailed report within two weeks. The report should include the status of the FIR, the health and counseling status of the victims, and steps taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
The NHRC has also asked state authorities to reach out to students who attended similar camps organized by the same person in four other schools in the district to determine if any other students were subjected to abuse or ill-treatment.
The issue came to light when one of the victims informed the school principal, but the staff initially tried to cover it up. The matter was reported to the police after the victim’s mother was informed.
