New School Building Inaugurated in Bhaktapur, Nepal with India’s Help
The new building of Shree Mahendra Shanti Secondary School in Bhaktapur, Nepal, was officially inaugurated on Monday. The school building was constructed under the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ with financial assistance from the Government of India, costing NRs 11.30 million.
Inauguration Ceremony
The building was jointly inaugurated by Durlav Thapa Chhetri, a member of the Federal Parliament of Nepal, and Avinash Kumar Singh, First Secretary of the Embassy of India in Kathmandu. The project was implemented through the District Coordination Committee, Bhaktapur.
School History and Facilities
Shree Mahendra Shanti Secondary School, established in 1952, was upgraded to a secondary school in 1995. It is one of the oldest schools in the district and currently has around 800 students, 45% of whom are girls. The new facilities aim to provide better education and an improved learning environment.

The inauguration was attended by various dignitaries, including Ishwar Bahadur Thapa, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Bhaktapur, and Sarita Timsina (Bhattarai), Deputy Mayor of Suryabinayak Municipality, Bhaktapur. The event also saw the presence of political representatives, government officials, social workers, school management representatives, teachers, parents, and students.
The project reflects the ongoing support of the Government of India in enhancing infrastructure in priority sectors in Nepal, contributing to the upliftment of the people in the region.
