33% Women Representation Achieved

On July 5, in Kohima, Nagaland, seven female and twelve male councillors were sworn in as members of the Kohima Municipal Council. The ceremony took place at the Capital Convention Centre Kohima, with Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant IAS administering the oath.

Nagaland Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, congratulated the newly elected councillors. She highlighted the importance of the 33% reservation for women in the Municipal Act, passed on November 9, 2023, and the successful Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Elections conducted after two decades under Chief Minister Niephiu Rio’s leadership.

Kruse emphasized the councillors’ responsibilities to represent their wards, act as a bridge between the community and the council, and work with integrity and vision. She assured that the government would provide all possible assistance for the development and upliftment of the municipality.
