Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal to Attend BIMSTEC Retreat in India
Kathmandu, Nepal – Nepal’s Foreign Ministry has announced that Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal will travel to India to attend the BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers’ Retreat. The event will take place on July 11-12, 2024, in New Delhi.
According to a press release, Lamsal will lead a Nepali delegation to the retreat, which aims to strengthen regional cooperation in areas of mutual interest within the BIMSTEC framework. During her visit, she will also meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with other BIMSTEC delegates.
The retreat, hosted by India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, will provide an opportunity for the Foreign Ministers of BIMSTEC nations to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in sectors such as security, connectivity, trade, and investment.
The first BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers’ Retreat was held in Bangkok, Thailand, on July 17, 2023. BIMSTEC includes seven member states: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
