Government Response
Nepal’s Home Minister, Ramesh Lekhak, stated that the heavy rainfall has caused severe damage, particularly in the Kathmandu Valley. The Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police are actively conducting search and rescue operations across the country.
On Saturday, Kathmandu experienced a record-breaking rainfall of 323 millimeters within 24 hours, the highest in 54 years. The heavy rains, influenced by water vapor from the Bay of Bengal and a low-pressure system, have created a humanitarian crisis.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Authority (NDRRMA) has issued warnings for 56 out of 77 districts, advising people to take precautions. The monsoon season, which usually starts around June 13 and ends in late September, is expected to extend till late October this year.
