NEET-UG Retest Results Announced After Controversy

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the results of the NEET-UG retest held on June 23 for 1563 candidates. This retest was conducted following a controversy over the awarding of grace marks to certain students.

Revised Scores and Rank

On June 30, the NTA declared the revision of the rank of all candidates who appeared in the exam. The revised scorecards, including those of the 1563 candidates who took the retest, will be available on the NTA website.

Political and Legal Reactions

BJP leader Shazia Ilmi mentioned that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has taken moral responsibility for the issue, and an investigation is ongoing. The Supreme Court ruled that the grace marks should be scrapped, offering affected candidates a retest or the option to retain their original scores without the grace marks.

High-Level Committee and CBI Investigation

The Central Government has set up a high-level committee, led by former ISRO chairman Dr. K Radhakrishnan, to review the NTA’s examination processes. The CBI is investigating a paper leak, with arrests made in Bihar and Jharkhand. Special teams have been formed to look into the matter.

Background

The NEET-UG exam was conducted on May 5, 2024, with 23 lakh candidates appearing at 4,750 centers in 571 cities in India and 14 cities abroad. The results, declared on June 4, led to protests due to 67 candidates achieving perfect scores.
