Neeraj Chopra Supports Vinesh Phogat’s Appeal for Silver Medal at CAS

Neeraj Chopra, a two-time Olympic medalist, has shown his support for Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for a silver medal. Vinesh was disqualified from the Olympics for breaching the weight limit by just 100 grams. She was set to compete against Sarah Ann Hildebrandt from the USA for the gold medal.

After her disqualification, Vinesh requested the CAS to award her the silver medal. The decision will be made before the end of the ongoing marquee event, as announced by CAS.

Speaking at a press conference at the India House, Neeraj urged citizens not to forget Vinesh’s contributions to the nation. He said, “All of us know that if she gets the medal it will be really good. She would have got the medal if such a situation did not arise. If we don’t get the medal, people remember us for some time and say we are their champions but if we don’t get the medal they forget us as well…I just want to request people to not forget what Vinesh has done for the country.”

Neeraj Chopra himself secured a silver medal in the men’s javelin throw at the ongoing Summer Games with a throw of 89.45 meters. After his win, Neeraj’s mother expressed happiness, saying, “We’re happy with silver. The one who won gold (Arshad Nadeem) is also my child.” Neeraj commented that his mother’s words came from her heart and emphasized the desire for peace between India and Pakistan, despite the ongoing border issues.
