NDRF on High Alert in Prayagraj Due to Heavy Rains and Flooding

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is on high alert in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, because of heavy rains causing flooding in low-lying areas. Visuals from the city show NDRF teams and local administration assessing the situation in areas like Bakshi Bandh, Chhota Baghara, Nagvasuki Mandir, and the Sangam area.

NDRF Inspector Anil Kumar stated, “I have been deployed in Prayagraj for the first one week with one team of 11th Battalion. The situation in Prayagraj has been normal for the last two days as the flood water has been receding. It all depends on the rain in the hills if the water is released from the dams, then the water levels might increase again.”

The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted thundershowers with very heavy rain at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh until August 16. Earlier, on August 8, heavy rains caused the Ganga River to rise, submerging the ghats.

Anand, a pilgrim from Delhi, mentioned, “I had come here from Delhi to visit the temple and take the blessings. However, it’s been raining here a lot and we have been asked not to go out. Yesterday, a house had collapsed and now the Ghats have submerged here.”

Although the river is still below the danger mark, water has entered homes in the Baghada, Salori, and Rajapur areas of Varanasi. Visuals from Prayagraj show people using boats to commute.
