NCW Investigates Deaths of 6 Women from Spurious Liquor in Tamil Nadu

The National Commission for Women (NCW) is looking into the tragic deaths of six women in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu, who consumed spurious liquor. A three-member inquiry committee, led by NCW Member Khushbu Sundar, has been formed to investigate the matter.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has also taken notice of the case, highlighting the serious violation of the victims’ right to life. The NCW has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police of Tamil Nadu, requesting a detailed report within one week. This report should include the status of the FIR, medical treatment of hospitalized victims, and compensation disbursement to the affected families.

The state government has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. The victims are currently being treated in various government hospitals in Kallakurichi, Salem, Villpuram, and JIPMER in Puducherry.
