NCW Chairperson Calls for Action Against Arvind Sawant
In Mumbai, Maharashtra, the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, Vijaya Rahatkar, has urged the Election Commission of India to take swift action against Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant. This request follows Sawant’s derogatory comment referring to Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC as “imported maal.”
Rahatkar emphasized the importance of maintaining the dignity and respect of women, especially during the festive season of Diwali. She stated that public representatives should refrain from making inappropriate remarks against women. Rahatkar also called on the Mumbai Police to act on the FIR filed by Shaina NC.
Arvind Sawant, in his defense, claimed he did not mention Shaina NC by name and criticized the uproar as a habit of his opponents. He also took the opportunity to criticize Prime Minister Modi and referenced the alleged Rs 75,000 crore irrigation scam involving NCP leader Ajit Pawar.
The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23.
