In a tragic incident, Baba Siddique, a leader from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and former Maharashtra minister, was shot near Nirmal Nagar in Bandra, Mumbai. He succumbed to his injuries at Lilavati Hospital late Saturday night.

Post-Mortem at Cooper Hospital

On Sunday morning, Mumbai Police transferred Siddique’s body from Lilavati Hospital to Cooper Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The distance between the two hospitals is approximately 8 kilometers.

Community Mourns Loss

A large number of people, including politicians and celebrities, gathered at Lilavati Hospital to pay their respects to Siddique’s family. Siddique was a three-time MLA from Bandra West and had joined Ajit Pawar’s NCP earlier this year after leaving the Congress.

Investigation and Arrests

Chief Minister Shinde described the incident as “extremely unfortunate” and confirmed that two suspects have been arrested, with a third still at large. The suspects are from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Mumbai Police have recovered a 9.9mm pistol used in the crime.

Details of the Incident

According to doctors, Siddique sustained two gunshot wounds to his chest. He was admitted to Lilavati Hospital around 9:30 pm on Saturday, but despite efforts to save him, he passed away shortly after. Mumbai Additional CP Paramjit Singh Dahiya confirmed the arrests and stated that the Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating the case.
