The National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India Ltd. (NCCF) has announced a new initiative to sell tomatoes at Rs 60 per kilogram starting from July 29. This move aims to stabilize the market and reduce the current high retail prices of tomatoes, which range between Rs 100 to Rs 120 per kilogram.

Anice Joseph Chandra, managing director of NCCF, confirmed that the sale will begin on Monday, July 29. The initiative is designed to provide significant relief to consumers by offering tomatoes at nearly half the prevailing market rates.

This effort by NCCF underscores its commitment to supporting consumers amidst rising food prices and stabilizing the market. The sale will expand to other locations in Delhi NCR in the coming days to ensure widespread accessibility and convenience for consumers.

Recent reports indicated that tomato prices are expected to rise further due to heavy rainfall in the Muradabad region, a major hub for tomato cultivation. The excessive rains have severely impacted tomato fields, leading to widespread crop destruction and forcing many farmers to uproot their crops.
