NCB’s Major Cocaine Bust in Delhi
82.53 Kg Seized, Four Arrested
In a significant operation against drug trafficking in India, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized 82.53 kg of high-grade cocaine in the Delhi NCR region. This operation led to the arrest of four individuals involved in the syndicate.
Details of the Operation
According to Neeraj Kumar Gupta, Deputy Director General of NCB, the seizure was the result of extensive efforts following leads from previous cases in March and August 2024. The NCB utilized both technical and human intelligence to trace the source of the drugs, leading to the recovery on November 14 from Janakpuri and Nangloi areas in Delhi.
The initial discovery was made at a courier shop in Delhi, where a parcel destined for Australia was intercepted. Despite challenges, the NCB traced the bulk of the cocaine, which was hidden in Delhi. The market value of the seized cocaine is estimated to be between Rs 11-14 crore per kilogram.
International Connections
The investigation revealed that the drug syndicate is operated by individuals based abroad, with plans to send some of the cocaine to Australia. The syndicate members, known as ‘Hawala Operators’, used pseudonyms to maintain anonymity.
Ongoing Investigations
Efforts are ongoing to uncover the full network of the syndicate with assistance from international Drug Law Enforcement Agencies. The NCB is also conducting programs to educate courier companies and postal services about drug trafficking risks.
