NCB Mumbai Arrests Three Drug Traffickers and Seizes 3,000 Bottles of Illegal Cough Syrup
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Mumbai conducted a precise operation on Sunday, arresting three drug traffickers and recovering 3,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup (CBCS). The arrested individuals, identified as S R Ahmed, M Aslam, and Y Khan, were members of an interstate drug cartel tasked with distributing the drugs in the Mumbai region. The drugs were sourced from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
After receiving information about their movements, the NCB team set up surveillance near the Ulhasnagar area of Thane. Following continuous efforts, they intercepted and arrested the traffickers while they were receiving contraband parcels from transport services. The traffickers had been using different transport services to illegally traffic CBCS by mis-declaring the transported goods.
The operation led to the recovery of 3,000 CBCS bottles, weighing 300 kg and valued at Rs 15 lakhs. All the arrested individuals have a history of drug trafficking. Further investigations are ongoing.
Earlier, on July 17, the NCB Mumbai arrested Sufiyan Khan, a key member of a drug syndicate, after a prolonged operation. Khan had been hiding and changing his phone numbers since the NCB busted a drug syndicate in Navi Mumbai last month, seizing 31.5 kg of mephedrone. He was apprehended from a lodge in Vashi on July 15 and is currently in NCB custody. Khan, described as an important member of the drug syndicate, operated from the Sewree area in Mumbai and has been involved in several police cases.
