NCB Detains Drug Lords Akshay Chhabra and Jaspal Singh in Punjab
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has taken significant action by detaining drug lords Akshay Chhabra and Jaspal Singh, also known as Goldy, under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act. This move aims to curb their narco-smuggling activities.
Continued Illegal Activities
Despite being in jail, both Chhabra and Goldy continued their illegal activities, resulting in three additional FIRs against Chhabra and one against Goldy under the NDPS Act. This is the second such action by the NCB to break the jail-based drug mafia link in the region.
Previous Arrests and Investigations
Akshay Chhabra was arrested at Jaipur International Airport while attempting to flee to Sharjah, UAE, on November 24, 2022. During the investigation, Jaspal Singh, alias Goldy, was identified as a key member of Chhabra’s drug syndicate. The syndicate, based in Ludhiana, had smuggled around 1400 kg of heroin from various locations, including ICP Attari in Punjab, Mundra Sea Port in Gujarat, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Seizures and Arrests
The NCB has arrested 20 people involved in this case, including the kingpin, traffickers, white-collar criminals, and two Afghan nationals. They have seized approximately 40 kg of heroin, 0.557 kg of opium, 23.645 kg of suspected narcotics powder, four bottles of HCL, 31 live bullets, and one magazine.
