Naxalite Encounter in Chhattisgarh
One Naxalite Killed, Two CRPF Jawans Lost in IED Blast
In Chhattisgarh’s Dhamtari district, a Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Amjhar village and Muhkot forests on Sunday noon. Security personnel recovered weapons involved in the attack, and a search operation is ongoing to find hiding Naxalites and more weapons.
Earlier in the day, two jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed in an IED blast planted by Naxalites between Silger and Tekulagudem in the Sukma district. The killed security personnel were identified as Vishnu R (35) from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, and Shailendra (29) from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. They were part of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) 201 battalion, a specialized force for guerrilla and jungle warfare.
The incident occurred at 3 pm on Sunday when the jawans were on Road Opening Duty from Camp Silger to Camp Tekalgudem. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed grief over the deaths and condemned the attack as a ‘cowardly act out of frustration’ due to the ongoing Naxal eradication campaign in Bastar.
